Marks and Spencer Turkey office was established in 2005 and is now responsible for sourcing Menswear, Womenswear, Kidswear, Lingerie and Homeware products for Marks and Spencer UK Headquarter in London Waterside.

The main responsibility of this regional office is to source, develop, plan and manage textile and home production around Turkey, Europe, Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan. Our team which started with 15 employees in 2005 has grown to 75 employees in region at a consistent pace.

Our structure is made up of Merchandising (Clothing, Homeware, Operations), Technology (Quality, Fabric, Garment, Product, Plan A), Ethical Trading (Ethical Compliance and Auditing), and Supply Chain teams, supported by Human Resources and Finance departments.

Our office is located in Yesilkoy-Istanbul.


We are looking for a FABRIC TECHNOLOGIST for our Technology Department.


What are you responsible for doing?

  • Work to the fabric technology strategy in line with SO and Head Office technical strategies
  • Meeting the expectations of sourcing briefs from the BU’s in terms of value and quality
  • Ensure the suppliers understand and meet M&S required standards of fabric quality and safety, develop action plans to bring these to acceptable quality, environmental and safety standards.
  • Ensure fabric qualities meet the M&S required/agreed standard for aesthetics and performance.
  • Screening of all fabric technical/bulk submissions before sending to UK and approval when appropriate
  • Carrying out fabric pre-production / Risk Analysis reviews, agreeing required testing standards and the frequency of tests with suppliers and mills,
  • Ensure CRTM/BRTM rates as per the target of each individual department are being worked with and actions are being taken for further orders
  • Issue management and follow up on AQL failures
  • Contribute to KPIs with the preparation of fabric quality reports.
  • For direct sourced garments, assist fabric and garment manufacturing units in interpreting M&S technical specification packs.
  • Issue and follow up wearer trials
  • Research and implementation of Innovation into products
  • Contribute into business Plan A activities and targets. Keep informed of key sustainability trends in product, fabric and fibres, horizon scanning for the latest industry sustainability developments.
  • Ensuring accuracy and completeness in sustainability reporting and licensed/branded fibre documentation.
  • Work closely and coordinate with other functions of technology and members of your division
  • Conducting assignments at the discretion of Fabric Technology manager and the Head of Region.

What technical knowledge and skills do we need?

  • Degree in Textile or Chemistry Science or related disciplines,
  • Technical qualification and expertise in Fabric Technology including raw materials, spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing and quality control/testing processes.
  • Passion for sustainability with knowledge and experience of industry-wide initiatives in raw material and environmental sustainability
  • 3 – 10 years working experience in a related field for the UK/European/US markets.
  • Good level of communication skills in English with knowledge of technical terms are required and a good level of both written/spoken local languages considered advantageous.
  • Multi tasked orientated working to tight deadlines, understanding when to take decisions and when to seek guidance.
  • Strong communication skills internally and externally within business.
