QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Description:

The successful candidate will take part in Thermal Systems Design of gas turbine engine components in Concept, Preliminary and Detailed phases and will collaborate with engineering disciplines.

The successful candidate will design state of the art gas turbine engines using in house and commercial design tools and will also play a significant role in developing advanced technologies in gas turbine heat transfer and secondary air system.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate throughout the design process to analyze the rotor, stator, and/or component cooling designs in all design phases,
  • Perform thermal analysis using finite element analysis (FEA) and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis in support of new engine designs or advanced technology programs,
  • To take part in the development of gas turbine secondary air system analysis and design methodologies,
  • Using the results of engine assembly and component tests to validate thermal and secondary air system design, analytical models and design tools,
  • Evaluate and develop predictions and methods to validate heat transfer and secondary air system models,
  • To prepare and present technical data for internal and external customers,
  • Working in coordination with other engineering disciplines,
  • Lead and mentor Junior engineers.


Qualifications:

  • Education to level in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field to heat transfer or fluid mechanics,
  • At least 5 years of Industrial or Academic experience in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics,
  • Hands-on experience with fluid flow & heat transfer analytical software and computer codes,
  • Hands-on experience with heat transfer modelling at various levels of fidelity for product design and analysis (1-D reduced order component models, thermal networks, 2-D and 3-D thermal FEA),
  • Ability to use CAD software (CATIA, NX, or similar software.) for basic design purposes,
  • Advanced degree with thesis focused in heat transfer/thermal design or fluid mechanics is preferred,
  • Fluent in English,
  • Aiming a career in aviation,
  • Experience in secondary air system design of gas turbine engines and 1-D flow network solvers is a plus,
  • Experience with design of internal and external turbine blade cooling systems is a plus,
  • Experience in conjugate heat transfer analysis using commercial software (ANSYS, Star-CCM+ or similar software) is a plus,
  • Knowledge with Linux systems is a plus.
