Requirements

We are searching for a candidate with:

? Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

? 5+ years of experience in special-purpose equipment and/or automation design

? High level of proficiency in SolidWorks

? Demonstrable ability to conceptualize and create concepts and solutions for complex design requirements, sometimes from sketches or verbal concepts

? Thorough knowledge of the use of pneumatic systems and electrical devices (i.e. switches, load cells, LVDT’s, etc.)

? Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

? A collaborative, team player attitude

? The ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization in a professional manner

? A solution and a results-oriented mindset

? A high level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency

Nice to have:

? Working knowledge of common machine shop techniques is highly valued

? Experience with robotic cells and assembly systems is an asset

Duties and Responsibilities

A typical day includes:

? Creating the mechanical design for robot and assembly systems, production gauges, error proofs, assembly jigs, and equipment automation

? Analyzing engineering drawings and specifications to determine the shape, dimensions, hardness etc. in the development of equipment, processes and products

? Performing engineering calculations for the strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc., related to project designs.

? Reviewing electrical requirements alongside electrical designers

? Reviewing machine operations and machine sequences with the project team

? Selecting the appropriate purchase component for mechanical assemblies and creating requisitions with appropriate delivery dates

? Producing working drawings, detail drawings, bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies and main assemblies using SolidWorks.

? Reviewing drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.

? Assisting the manufacturing team by resolving any issues during the build, debug and integration of projects

? Communicating with customers, in-house technical and engineering staff, and vendors to receive technical information and specifications

? Communicating requested design changes to the GAA team or the respective manager

? Communicating time estimates, resource requirements, and progress on design tasks to the Design Manager and Program Manager

? Conducting periodic supervision of the mechanical design effort on a project level, delegating tasks as needed

? Organizing documentation for projects including quotes, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, schedules, etc.

? Assisting with proposals and estimating mechanical design labour hours

? Assisting in the development of design and departmental standards

? Periodically overseeing Co-op students and Junior Designers

? Analyzing designs and systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards (ex. Machine safety, GAA and/or customer-specific)

? Coordinating continuous improvement initiatives
