GENEL NİTELİKLER

Koç University is seeking a Media & Public Relations Coordinator who will be responsible for creating public relations strategies, interfacing with national and international media, conducting research and media pitches, and developing/disseminating press releases and other communication materials through PR outreach. As a key member of the Communications Office, the individual will work closely with other departments, schools and colleges of the University to develop and implement communications strategies for high priority initiatives, projects and urgent communications matters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Literature, Language or a related field
  • 7+ years of proven experience as a Public Relations Expert or a similar PR role.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of public and media relations and experience in managing media relations (online, broadcast and print), coordinating public relations efforts and interacting with reporters, members of the public and other important stakeholders
  • Experience in developing and conducting press conferences and briefings with reporters and other important stakeholders
  • Experience with digital and social media, and the ability to translate complex information into compelling written materials that motivate journalists to action, including press releases, media pitches, blog posts and op-eds.

Skills:

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills in English and Turkish, including excellent proofreading skills and use of proper grammar and punctuation in English and Turkish
  • Outstanding competency in effective communication and interpersonal skills, time management, problem solving, organization skills with attention to details; strong in team work who also works well independently
  • Ability to understand and translate complex technical and large volumes of information into compelling narratives is essential to the role, as is the ability to manage multiple fast-paced projects with numerous stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Self-motivated with a creativity and problem-solving aptitude


Responsibility:

  • Performs daily analysis and reporting out on print, broadcast and online media to ensure internal awareness of relevant coverage and other matters of interest or sensitivity
  • Assists all University units and departments in leveraging public relations strategies and tactics utilizing all media tools and channels, including social media and traditional electronic media (local television/radio)
  • Builds media and pr communication strategy based on the communication targets that are aligned with both the University's and Communication Office's targets
  • Identifies media trends and evaluates pr/media opportunities
  • Maintains and builds press lists and reporter relationships
  • Responds to requests for information from the media including coordination with internal subject matter experts and managing PR issues
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.
