QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an Enhanced International Support Service Trade Advisor to join The Department for International Trade (DIT).

The Department for International Trade (DIT) has overall responsibility for promoting UK trade across the world and attracting foreign investment to the UK. We are a specialised government body with responsibility for negotiating international trade policy, supporting business, as well as delivering an outward-looking trade diplomacy strategy.

In this exciting position, you will lead on supporting British companies to establish themselves and grow in Turkey. You will help UK businesses to expand overseas, build new partnerships, and overcome barriers. You will work closely with colleagues across UK Government, the UK ecosystem and the Turkey to maximise the impact of your trade support.

You should be passionate about business development and be up-to-date with commercial developments that will allow you and the team to be in the best position to support UK business. The work will be varied and demanding and you will need to be a flexible, committed self-starter and able to juggle priorities to demanding timelines.

You will be one of two advisors for the Enhanced International Support Service (EISS) in Turkey. You will increase the value of UK exports by being the deputy to the Manager for Turkey; acting as a main point of contact for small and medium sized businesses looking to export to the market, providing advice on the complexities of gaining entry to Turkey. This requires an in-depth review of the market, research and knowledge of the UK businesses looking to export.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing guidance to businesses and stakeholders in identifying their route to market into Turkey, assessing their market entry needs, and advising on options for making progress. Through technical knowledge and expertise, this role has a direct impact on the EISS programme, raising quality of service and securing good external relationships.

  • Working with the DIT Turkey Manager you will support the running of the Turkey operations by providing timely, accurate and comprehensive management information on a monthly basis in order to meet KPI’s.

  • Help UK businesses establish effective export strategies and if needed, recommend additional options from the local Overseas Referral Network, ensuring regular follow up to remain a key player in their client’s export journey, tracking the service delivery to ensure it is fit for purpose and identify if further help is needed

  • Review and answer enquiries sent to Turkey. Adopting an effective relationships management approach for UK SME’s.

  • Working with colleagues you will be responsible for various defined tasks in support of UK companies currently in market or looking to enter the market; helping them spot the opportunities and helping them navigate the challenges. This could include organising visit programmes and attending either virtual or face-to-face briefings, trade missions and or exhibitions in Turkey or the UK.

  • Record, allocate, track trace and report all SME approaches, manage follow-up actions from enquiries and facilitate consultative client discussions with businesses, DIT colleagues and other key stakeholders in Turkey and the UK.

  • Work with the DIT Turkey Marketing and Communications team to create materials to promote the services available for UK companies.

  • Provide ad hoc administrative support to the DIT team as required.


Essential qualifications, skills and experience

•Minimum 3 years of experience in a multinational organisation, preferably in business development and/or trade related job.

•Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable dealing with senior officials and business people (both with the Clients and service providers).

•Self-starting, professionalism, confidence, proactive and persistence to call on companies and other stakeholders to generate leads, building the pipeline and securing project wins.

•Proven ability to build strong and effective networks and relationships with a range of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders and partners.

•Graduation from a reputable university.

•Excellent command (both oral and written) of English and Turkish, Common European Framework level/equivalent C1 or above*.

•Ability to prioritise, efficient time management, good planning skills.

•Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

•Experience in working in a similar role.

•Experience in working in an international environment and virtual teams.

•Having participated in organising events/seminars.

•Broad sector information and knowledge in trade to map suitable targets for trade opportunities.
